WHAT HAS MY JOURNEY BEEN SINCE JOINING MIXCHANGE?
A journey is the act of travelling from one place to another…since joining MiXchange I have been travelling with the Lord, with Holy Spirit from my own plans for my life to God’s plans and purpose for me. I am in the 3rd year of exchanging now on the 7th of July 2023, and reflecting back I cannot recognise the person I was compared to the person I am today. Personal leadership and developing character is definitely a big thing that has taken place in my life.
When growing up as a kid and transitioning from a young adult to an adult, the world gives you this impression that you have to work you have to achieve to become someone or have purpose in life. And even from a spiritual viewpoint, you have to become mature and maybe get married and multiply to have a spiritual purpose. However, a big change that has taken place in my heart is the revelation that being a disciplined one (a disciple) is the highest and greatest calling, it is the assignment that every person has.
So the perspective of personal leadership of having to mature to be able to do your assignment for the Lord has changed for me, to even now that as I am developing and growing and maturing in the Lord that I am already walking in part of what he has predestined for me. Before this journey, I was a child oblivious to what I do not know…now I am a hungry child, knowing how little I know but so hungry for the Word and ready to learn and receive every day. Ps Garth would say: “God is not interested in what you are doing but in who you are becoming” and so the perspective of you have to develop personal leadership to do things, has changed to becoming and developing because of becoming who I am supposed to be in the Lord.
Yes, there have been many confrontations and confrontations are pressured moments that build character. Like the scripture that speaks of purifying iron with fire. Through all the confrontations I have most definitely developed character. Patience and self-control, joy and peace, just knowing I can rejoice because ultimately God’s got this…
I have definitely grown in the area of relationships, in being more open to people and not hiding away within myself, not isolating from my blood-bought family. I have learnt that relationship is the most important this for the Lord firstly between HIM and his children, then between family and then the body. I have also seen growth in my ability to love like Jesus and learnt that love is not a feeling but a choosing to humble yourself and esteem others higher than yourself.
In this journey so far I have discovered that part of the plan for my life is to be a disciplined one, I know I am called to this Ecclesia but I have known that for a long time. I know I have a serving gift and that it should be used to further the kingdom of the LORD but in order, not in my own way but under the authority of my spiritual father Pastor John. So I am ready to go where I might not know and to have this adventure in faith alongside my blood-bought family.
Alongside learning I have a serving gift I have learnt new skills from production to operating a camera to taking photos and editing them, my favourite however is the learning of being a sound engineer. Learning how to mix live sound as well as editing in postproduction. Tuning vocal and transposing audio tracks. All the practical things of setting up microphones and patching to the audio console knowing what each mic does and how to mic up an instrument. Learning how to process up a talking mic and how to handle the pressures that come with production and probably a lot more like learning better driving techniques when we go on an adventure. So yes I have learnt a lot of natural skills in the journey too.
As I have journeyed so far I have had multiple encounters with the Lord, disciplinary ones but also loving and some insightful, all of them which have marked me and have brought me to this point. One that has been life-changing and that had a big maker on my life was when we had a prayer and praise intensive special weekend at the church, and it was one of the evening services where we just worshipped and I experienced a lot of pressure to get the mixing right for broadcast as all the songs where the new albums we just released and it was the first time we are doing them live. I remember being super focused but having this cry in my heart that I don’t want to miss anything and that I don’t want to be lonely at the back missing the flow because I choose to serve. We were a few songs in and the presence of the Lord just filled the room almost like a blanket around me. The worship continued and there was a flow with the spirit but I distinctly remember not being alone that evening and that God is with me in my serving even though it sometimes seem like I am alone.
So in a short conclusion…if I can not live life fully sold out to the Lord and in HIS plans for me I personally believe I would be wasting my life and it would all be for nothing. Ps Sharon would put it this way: “You have come too late to tell me otherwise.”
