What an experience cycling the Cullinan to Tonteldooss race route 2 days before the actual race, with my blood bought family and an easy way to put it best friends.
I cycled 80km and 80km on both days. Such a blessing to have been able to have done it, and I give all the glory to God that I was healed and strong enough to cycle those days.
My favorite part of this adventure was the scenery…it was absolutely stunning. Although I live in Witbank I have never been to that side of the mountains and have never been to Loskop Dam it was absolutely beautiful.
So in the span of 2 days, I cycled an average of 160km with 2127m of climbing which was probably a new record for me.
During this whole adventure and the preparation for this adventure, I had a lot of questions, mostly asking why am I even doing this, like what is the point. Because seriously if you think about it “logically” it might seem ridiculous, riding a 2 wheeled contraption with a tiny seat that hurts you to get from point A to point B as fast as possible however if I had to cover that distance in a car I would pack snacks now I want to do it on a bicycle.
However the Lord has been so so good to me, I cycle because I enjoy it. I love being outside and enjoying God’s creation. I cycle because I can do it with family and friends, the fellowship. I cycle because it is in my legacy…there’s a transfer happening as I cycle. I cycle to keep fit and ever ready to do whatever the Lord has in store for me. Ultimately I condition, sowing the seed of energy to reap energy, I condition to put down my flesh.
Going back to the adventure, I must say that I grew a lot in the fruit of the spirit. It was long days in the saddle spanning anything from 5 to 7 hours leaning closer to 7 hours. However, if I had to do it all over again I would jump right in and cycle the route again. Because hey, it’s just hills and we can always get over it.
Fun stories…I cycled with Leigh-Ann a lot during this adventure and there was this one spot where the downhill got pretty steep and she just refused to ride down. However, luckily we had Simon and he made a plan to save some time because walking down that hill with a bike next to you was almost the worst. So Simon had Leigh-Ann get up on the one side of the car while he held up the bike through the window on the other side while driving down the steep and rocky hill to help Leigh-Ann down so we could keep riding as lunch was desperately calling us.
Also earlier that day we had to cross a river but the catch was that the bridge was washed away. So we managed to climb our the washed away bridge and carry our bikes across without getting wet Praise the Lord. For I really dislike wet cleats.
My next goal… definitely to go further and faster however I wanna step up in love and not just cross the finish line alone but also be able to help others do it too.
